These steps start again from their first creature if your whole party dies, everyone rests, or the area empties during the fight: Slay the Droops; Defeat the Droop King.
The developer wrote in the 0.107.7779 patch notes (2026-09-25) that some event quests are bugged and are being fixed, and that they should not block your progress.
