Stacking effects
A stacking effect can sit on a target several times over. Each copy is a stack, and more stacks make it stronger, up to the limit each entry lists.
Everything below this box is the game's own Codex text, word for word.

Effects
Temporary conditions on a timer. Buffs and debuffs from potions, food, spells, and enemy attacks. They expire on their own; stronger sources apply longer or stronger versions.
The icons on your effects bar come in two kinds. Active effects are conditions placed on you; gaining the same effect again does not add up, as only the strongest instance applies. Passive bonuses are triggered by your skills and equipment; these stack together with all your other bonuses.
Hover over an icon to see which kind it is.
The Codex lists 86 timed effects.
